International markets of ornamental plants are still wide open. Indonesian Ornamental Crops Research Institute (Balithi) Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia noted, the international market of superior varieties reached US $ 60 billion. However, the potential export of ornamental plants of Indonesia's superior varieties, can only suffice US $ 20 million. Indonesia currently ranks 49 countries in the world as the best floriculture producer. This was conveyed by Principal Researcher of Balithi, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Marwoto.
Budi said, his side encourages local governments and cultivators in the region to continue to drive the production sector in order to achieve higher export value. For the current production, Indonesia is only able to produce 600 million stalks. While the overseas market still needs very much at all.
Potential production of ornamental plants in Indonesia can still be improved, because Indonesia is the second largest producer of floriculture species in the world, reaching 29,000 species, the second largest after Brazil.
