WALHI plans to sue government over forest fires, http://www.thejakartapost.com, 8 October 2013
The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI), a conservation group, has said that it will file a lawsuit against the government for failing to control the annual forest fires in Sumatra. The team's spokesman, said that they would attempt to make the case that the government, related ministers, and Sumatra regional officials had consistently failed to enact a policy to prevent forest fires, especially in Riau and Jambi.

Chairman of the Indonesian Forest Association, Lenony Aurora initiated the Indonesian protection petition through change.org. Petition spreading through social media with tags # JagaHutan aims to raise awareness of Indonesia's forest wealth.
Currently Indonesia has not had a special day to celebrate its forest wealth, but on a global level, there are already international forest days. Indonesia has the third largest tropical rain forest in the world and is one of 17 countries with mega biodiversity. Indonesia's forest area reaches 133 million ha and is home to 10% of the world's flora, 12% of mammals, and 17% of bird species.
