Local Partnership Boosts Microsoft Indonesia's Income by 30 Percent:, 15 September 2008

Microsoft Indonesia's income in 2008 rose by 30 percent compared to the previous year. The growth in income was due to the establishment of local partnerships with local IT companies. According to Microsoft, presently it has 3,500 partners, ranging from distributors, large account reseller, system integrator, reseller, system builder, and channel & independent software vendor. One of Microsoft Indonesia's most influential partners (in regards of contribution to growth) is PT. Mitra Integrasi Informatika, which has been MI's partner for 12 years. Microsoft Indonesia's other partners include PT. Mitrasoft Infonet, PT. Sistech Kharisma, PT. Astrindo Starvision, PT. iForte Solusi Infotek, PT. Artha Infotama, PT. Execu Train Nusantarajaya, Media Innovation, PT. Bhinneka Mentari Dimensi, Axioo, Wahana Cipta Sinatria and PT. Intersoft Solutions.

As English mastery among business people in Indonesia is still below adequate, it impedes the development of IT-based applications in Indonesia, especially due to the fact that English is the international language of business. Indonesia was losing out on IT business because competitors from India, Malaysia and Singapore not only had better English mastery, but also have better developed IT infrastructures in their countries.

In addition, personal computer penetration in Indonesia remained low. In Java, the most densely populated island, 847 students use one personal computer, while in the outer island, 1,900 students may use one computer. For that reason, PT Microsoft Indonesia and ITB launched the innovation centre to provide research and development facilities on software solutions. The project involves government officials, academics and business people.
