Society for the Enhancement of Small Businesses expect rattan furniture and handicraft industry using raw materials and production processes that are environmentally friendly. Program Manager of Society for the Enhancement of Small Businesses Listoman Tanjung said the national agro-industrial chain is so long, sometimes it is not one-sided. In addition, the length of the distribution channels of raw materials to finished products is feared using practices that are incompatible with sustainability efforts.

The activities carried out in six provinces, including Aceh, Central Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Java, Central Java and East Java.
Furniture Industry Increasingly Difficult to Obtain Raw Material: https://ekbis.sindonews.com/read/1241239/34/industri-mebel-makin-sulit-dapatkan-bahan-baku-rotan-1505834814/20 September 2017
Furniture and crafts industry in the country more difficult to get raw materials of rattan, which began to be felt since last year. Chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) Soenoto said that until now rattan exports are still prohibited, but the raw materials of rattan are still difficult to find. This is due to the large number of rattan smuggling to several countries, especially to Singapore, China and Vietnam. Indonesia is a major producer of world rattan. Whereas about 85% of the world's rattan comes from Indonesia.

End of 2011, the Indonesian government banned the export of raw rattan, mixed rattan and semi-finished rattan. The policy is contained in Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 35/2011. International Trade Statistics Database (UN Comtrade) mentions that in 2011 Indonesia is still the world's largest exporter of rattan with export value USD39.599.568 followed by Singapore worth USD11.808.320, and China USD3.521.423.

In 2012, Singapore which does not have rattan-covered forest becomes the main exporter of rattan. In 2016, Singapore's rattan export value still reached USD7.268.785, followed by China USD4.290.338 and Hong Kong USD1.354.239. Vice Chairman of HIMKI for Organization and Inter-Institutional Relations Abdul Sobur said the rattan exported by Singapore is suspected to be an illegal rattan originating from Indonesia. This means that when the ban on the export of rattan is applied, rattan smuggling continues to occur.
