Just two weeks running, Working Cabinet led by President Joko Widodo has managed to make significant savings. A number of ministries save business travel budgets, meetings, and the like with a total of Rp.1 trillion, as disclosed by the Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro. The savings figure outside the government targeted Rp.43 trillion in the revised state budget (APBN-P), 2014. According to Bambang, the commitment for the efficiency of the budget is already happening.

A delegation of 11 Indonesian parliamentarians visited CDI in November to discuss ways to improve the performance of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR). The Working Group on Performance Enhancement of the House of Representatives was led by prominent Indonesian parliamentarian Dr Eva Sundari, and included representatives of all major Indonesian parties. CDI agreed to work with the Working Group as they prepare their report on reform options and move into the implementation phase of their programme.

Note: CDI is the Centre for Democratic Institutions, an Australian based think-tank. The role of CDI is as a democracy promotion organization providing assistance and expertise to the Indonesian parliament.
