Tax Rate Increased, Advantages of alcoholic beverages is predicted decrease 30% in 2011: 4 January 2011

The increase in tax rates of beverages containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA) by 500% in the last year resulting in sales volumes by manufacturers of alcoholic beverages decreased. The rise of tax rates greatly affects beer sales. Turnover of the domestic beer industry in 2009 reached Rp.4 trillion by volume of 1.9 million liters. But until the end of 2010 is predicted to drop by 20%, whereas in 2011 is estimated to be deteriorating by 30%.
ICCI Asks that Liquor Investment Be Opened:, 6 July 2009

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI, also known as KADIN) suggested that the investment for liquor and alcohol industry be opened in order to open work opportunities. A KADIN Committee Chairman, Maxi Gunawan, informed that presently all liquor products is imported. Furthermore, liquor and alcohol industry has remained in the negative list for investment since 1994.
