Developing a Geothermal, PGE Prepare USD 2 Billion: July 2011

PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) invested more than $ 2 billion to increase the capacity of geothermal development 1050 Megawatt (MW) in the period 2011-2015. Expansion of geothermal development is in line with government plans to accelerate the project power plant of 10 thousand MW second phase.

In the development of geothermal energy PGE already using three business models, the first model, the company produces steam which is then sold to PT. National Electricity Company (PLN) to be converted into electrical energy. The second model in which PGE also produces steam and electricity as well as supply to PLN through the transmission. The third business model is the collaboration with the developer of private power (IPP) with the cooperation system Aggrement Joint Operation (JOA).
Dahlan: Developers Need Private Geothermal Incentives: March 2011

President Director of PT PLN (Persero) express one of the prolem that make slow utilization of geothermal energy is because private geothermal developers are still dependent on the total contract value of PLN. Therefore, he asked the governments for private geothermal developers are given incentives in the conduct exploration activities.

other problems that make PLN seems slow sign a contract, because private developers need to create certainty about the development of geothermal field that requires a period of seven years. Other reason that make the auction Mining Work Area (WKP) is hampered because developers need local government's decision who do WKP auction, so that PLN geothermal can not sign a contract.

Which allows for PLN in the utilization of geothermal energy is in cooperation with PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE). Dahlan reasoned, PGE is a state-owned enterprise, so the incentive to fund the acquisition of PGE would be easier.
