Deli Tobacco Sold Out in Bremen Bisnis Indonesia, page B4, 2005-07-07
2,124 bale (69 kilograms) of Deli tobacco manufactured by PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) II were sold out in the Bremen auction with an average price of 32.9 euro per pound. The total value of tobaccos auctioned in Bremen reached 4.9 million euro or equal to Rp 56 billion. The quality of tobaccos auctioned this year have relatively better quality compared to last year’s tobaccos. PTPN II is optimistic that the future of Deli tobacco is still promising due to the fact that demands in the international market reaches 3,000 to 5,000 bale. For that reason, PTPN II is conducting a planting trial using polybac medium to anticipate decreasing number of Deli tobacco plantation area in North Sumatra.
PTPN II Targets Dry Rubber Production of 8,217 Tons www.bisnis.com, 2005-07-01
PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) II in Tanjung Morawa, North Sumatra targets dry rubber production of 8,217 tons, an increase compared to last year’s production of 7,268 tons. Currently, PTPN II manages 9,233 hectares of plantations in North Sumatra, most of which need rejuvenating. However, due to limited funding, only few are rejuvenated. The management of PTPN plans to increase rubber productivity from 1,000 kilograms to 1,100 kilograms per hectare. The company will plant high-quality seed clones that can produce more rubber. Until May 2005, PTPN II has produced 2,416 tons of dry rubber. Although it is still far from the target set, PTPN II is quite optimistic that it will be able to produce 8,217 tons by the end of the second term of 2005.
