Kawasaki will release a number of new motorcycle models in the second semester of this year to increase its penetration of the local two-wheeled market. In the first semester of 2005, Kawasaki invested as much as US$ 20 million to increase production capacity up to 200,000 units in its Kelapa Gading factory. Last year, Kawasaki’s sales were far behind at only 78,767 units. In 2004, the company managed to sell 107,449 units and in 2003, only 66,960 units.
Motorcycle Sales Increases, Manufacturers Compete to Launch Latest Models
Due to increasing sales in motorcycles, motorcycle manufacturers now compete in launching the latest models. Kawasaki, for example, the holder of the fourth largest market share, plans to launch the new Kaze-R. The latest Kaze-R’s machine capacity is upgraded from 111 cc to 125 cc with some additional features. If consumers wish for something more economic, Kawasaki will also launch Kawasaki Blitz Joy (125 cc).
