The commercial vehicle market, especially trucks, is still quite challenging. In addition to the impact of macroeconomic instability, the performance of the truck market is also exposed to the relaxation policy on used truck imports. As is known, the Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) 8/2024 has permitted the import of used trucks for special needs, such as mining, weighing more than 24 tons and a maximum age of 20 years. This policy has been in effect since May 17.

New truck sales in Indonesia have also been on a downward trend throughout 2024. Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), national truck wholesales (factory to dealer) sales fell 15% year on year (yoy) to 54,427 units in January-October 2024.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed Nigeria's interest in railway carrier PT Industri Kereta Api. Therefore, during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to Nigeria, the two countries are exploring the cooperation of Indonesian railway carriage sales. And President Joko Widodo has instructed to follow up the cooperation.

Nigeria is not only interested to buy railway carriage made in Indonesia, but also ask for human resources capacity building assistance. The value of the cooperation reached 3.4 million US dollars for two years.
