The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) released 434 Irian Arowana fish or Jardini Arowana (Scleropages jardinii) measuring 15-16 cm into the Kaliwanggo River, Erambu Village, Sota District, Merauke Regency, South Papua Province, earlier this month.
The Director General of Marine and Marine Space Management of the KKP Victor Gustaaf Manoppo in his statement in Jakarta, Monday, said that the release was one of the efforts to maintain the sustainability of the arowana fish. The fish were caught from the wild by perpetrators who had a quota for the utilization of Jardini Arowana in 2023.

Police in Surabaya will tighten inspection of the belongings of a passenger ship docked in the harbor, after the arrest of the suspect smuggling yellow-crested cockatoo.
Head of the Police Public Relations Section of the Port of Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, Lily Djafar said stringent checks particularly for the belongings of the passengers of Maluku, Sulawesi and Papua, which is the natural habitat of rare birds. Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999 stipulates that the yellow-crested cockatoos as one of the protected animals. During the one and a half months of the last three cases of smuggling of rare animals Police arrested Tanjung Perak Surabaya, including Bali starlings.
